Long-term coal power contracts are hampering Asia's shift to renewables, locking utilities into fossil fuel dependence despite the availability of solar and wind, Reuters reported. In SE Asia, up to 100% of coal capacity is contractually bound for years ahead, disincentivizing clean energy use and risking stranded assets, researchers warned.
