Typhoon Bavi, the ninth typhoon of the year, was located about 1,580 km east-southeast of Taiwan's Keelung City at 8 a.m. on July 8, with maximum winds of 17 grade (super typhoon) near its center. The storm is expected to move west-northwest at 15-20 km/h, turning northwestward tonight and heading toward waters east of Taiwan, with little change in intensity. Due to Bavi's impact, winds over the southern East China Sea will gradually increase to 8-11 grade on the night of July 9. Zhejiang's flood control and typhoon relief authorities activated a maritime typhoon emergency response at 12 p.m. on July 8, following assessments and consultations under the provincial emergency contingency plan.
