Renewable power sources met 58% of Germany's electricity consumption in the first six months of 2026, up nearly 3 percentage points on the year to hit an all-time high, the ZSW research institute and BDEW industry association said on July 1.

Renewable power plants generated a combined 152.2 TWh in January-June. The gain was driven mainly by stronger output from onshore wind rising 7% year on year and offshore wind jumping 28.3%.

Photovoltaic generation rose 3.7% year on year. Hydropower output fell 7.7% amid below-average rainfall, while biomass power generation stayed broadly flat with a marginal 0.6% uptick.
