Guang'an port, located in the southwestern China's province of Sichuan, has initiated coal imports from Indonesia, heralding a significant development as the inland river port diversifies its coal sources to meet local demand.
On September 15, a vessel laden with 51,700 tonnes of high-CV thermal coal set sail from the Taboneo port in South Kalimantan, Indonesia.
This achievement follows a pivotal visit in late May when representatives from Guang'an port, as part of Sichuan's economic and trade delegation, inked a five-year agreement with Indonesian coal producers, with a total value of around 2 billion yuan.
Guang'an port encompasses a cluster of modern terminals strategically situated on the Qu River and Jialing River within Guang'an city, the birthplace of former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping. It holds a prominent position as one of Sichuan's key ports and is an integral component of the Guang'an-Nanchong-Guangyuan port complex. Furthermore, it stands as the pioneering modern port within the northeastern Sichuan economic zone.
Building upon the coal supply agreement, Guang'an port has established an international trade route connecting to Indonesian ports, facilitating the import of high-quality Indonesian marine products into Sichuan. At the same time, it serves as an export gateway for premium agricultural products and environmentally friendly plant protection products from the province to international markets.
The coal import initiative underscores Guang'an port's ongoing efforts to establish an energy industry supply chain platform, further enhancing its role in ensuring domestic energy supply security.
Guang'an port is poised to deepen its pragmatic cooperation with enterprises from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, Australia, and other regions. Guang'an port is committed to contributing continuously to the development of Sichuan's outward-oriented economy.
