Central China's Hunan province consumed 154.47 TWh of electricity in the first eight months of 2023, rising 1.1% from a year earlier, showed data from the provincial statistics bureau on September 18.
Of that, electricity consumption in the manufacturing sector was 48.55 TWh, up 1.4% on the year.
For the non-residential segment, the primary industries – mainly the agricultural sector – consumed 2.25 TWh, a 31.8% rise year on year; consumption in the secondary industries – mainly the industrial sector (73.56 TWh, +1.1% YoY) – hit 75.31 TWh, ticking up by 0.9% from the year-ago level; the tertiary industries – mainly the service sector – used 32.97 TWh, up 8.8% YoY.
Residential power utilization fell 4.6% year on year to 43.95 TWh in January-August.
In August, Hunan's power consumption totaled 23.27 TWh, a 6.3% decline year on year. Industrial use increased 3.6% on the year to 10.19 TWh, and the manufacturing sector used 6.73 TWh of power, up 6.1% YoY, data showed.
During the month, the primary industries consumed 383 GWh, up 1.7% year on year; the secondary industries used 10.44 TWh, rising 3.0% YoY; and the tertiary industries used 5.13 TWh, a 1.5% drop YoY.
Residential consumption reached 7.31 TWh during January-August, down 19.6% from the previous year.
