China's top coal producing provinces Shanxi and Inner Mongolia vowed to continue boosting coal production to provide ample energy supply to cope with the comeback of cold waves.
Shanxi Energy Bureau in a teleconference on January 24 pledged to steadily lift daily coal output to meet annual goals and meet current peak consumption demand. It will also keep its pace in adding new coal mining capacity in 2023.
Inner Mongolia asked mining firms in coal-rich cities and leagues to stagger the Spring Festival holidays, in a bid to keep normal coal production and supply during the holiday period.
This came as China's domestic coal supply remains tight at present, especially when demand for the fuel kept rising with temperatures hovering lower during the holidays, and coal prices stayed at a relatively high level.
The two coal hubs are expected to play a significant role in ensuring domestic coal supply in 2023.
Shanxi targets to produce 1.37 billion tonnes of coal in 2023, and its production in the first 11 months of 2022 had already exceeded the volume in 2021.
Coal output of Inner Mongolia came in at 1.17 billion tonnes last year, up 10.1% year on year. Its 2023 goal was set at 1.25 billion tonnes.
