Northwestern China's Gansu may see its raw coal production reach 55 million tonnes by the end of 2022, considering the province's monthly output had exceeded 4 million tonnes during the first ten months.
From January to October, Gansu produced 44.382 million tonnes of raw coal, already exceeding last year's figure of 41.51 million tonnes and making it highly likely the whole-year production in 2022 may hit a new record that exceeds the so-far highest level at 46.88 million tonnes in 2010.
The raw coal output in Gansu reached 5.18 million tonnes in June this year, a year-on-year surge of 35.90% and July witnessed a higher growth of 47.60%, data showed.
Coal resources in Gansu are mainly concentrated in the Longdong area, which is located on the western edge of the Ordos Basin.
Coal resources in Qingyang city are predicted to be 236 billion tonnes, with proven coal resources of 21.5 billion tonnes, accounting for 94% of the province's total. It mainly produces high-quality power and chemical coal with low ash and low sulfur contents but high calorific value. The city is concentrating on building a large-scale coal production base of 100 million tonnes.
The province's annual coal output will reach 70 million tonnes by the end of 2025, and it is planned to build 11 coal mine projects during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, with a production capacity of 30.6 million tonnes per year (Mtpa), and start construction of 8 coal mine projects with a production capacity of 27.8 Mtpa.
