China's thermal coal imports in October decreased 12.26% from a month ago to 22.26 million tonnes, showed data from the General Administration of Customs on November 21.
October's imports increased 2.15% compared with a year ago. The figure covers imports of bituminous, sub-bituminous coal and lignite.
The imports were valued at $2.37 billion, up 3.32% year on year but down 6.56% month on month. This translated to the average import price at $106.68/t, up 1.15% on the year and 6.49% on the month.
China's imports of thermal coal totaled 169 million tonnes during the first ten months of 2022, slumping 19.66% or 41.4 million tonnes year on year; the value totaled $19.49 billion, up 16.41% from a year ago.
Imports of lignite jumped 42.77% year on year to 12.21 million tonnes in October, which slumped 23.24% from September, the data showed. The import value was $1.05 billion in the month, up 37.49% year on year yet down 21.78% month on month.
The average import price was therefore calculated at $86.3/t, down 3.7% on the year but up 1.91% on the month.
China's lignite import totaled 103 million tonnes in January-October, up 6.19% or 6 million tonnes year on year. Import value totaled $9.77 billion during the period, rising 55.04% year on year.
