Shandong province in East China saw power grid load renew records for six times this year, and even broke through 100 GW for the first time on August 3 amid high temperatures, according to energy regulatory office of the National Energy Administration.
Its power load notched a new high of 100.78 GW at 11:25 a.m. on August 3, following a previous high of 97.58 GW recorded on June 26.
The local observatory forecast the highest temperature will exceed 35 degrees Celsius in Liaocheng, Dezhou, Binzhou, Dongying, Jinan, Xibo, Weifang, Taian and Jining cities in Shandong over August 3-7, with some even to see 37-39 degrees Celsius.
Shandong is a major coal producing province and also a large power supplier to other provinces.
Its raw coal output dropped 5.1% year on year to 43.24 million tonnes in the first half of this year, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
It earlier in June pledged no aggressive power rationing in peak demand months of this summer despite rising pressures, the provincial energy bureau said in a scheme on June 6.
In the scheme, the province adopted two measures of power users taking turns to cut production as well as the responses at a time of peak load.
