Russia's metallurgical coal miner Elga Coal saw its coal production hit a record high of 2 million tonnes in April, presenting a month-on-month jump of 29%, said the mining company on May 24.
The firm's coal output surged 87% from the year prior to 7.3 million tonnes during January-April.
Elga Coal couldn't ship all the production out during the first four months of 2022, due to limited capacity on the Baikal-Amur (BAM) main line. The rail shipments during the period reached 5.9 million tonnes, and about 1.4 million tonnes were still in stockpiles.
The company's Director General noted given the volatile economic environment, some of the aspects of the long-term development strategy adopted two years ago are being adjusted, but the principal aim of annual production of 45 million tonnes will remain unchanged.
