Japan produced 7.47 million tonnes of crude steel in April, down 6.1% month on month and 4.4% from the previous year, showed data from the Japan Iron and Steel Federation.
In the month, Japan's production of common steel products decreased 4.7% month on month and 3.3% year on year to 5.78 million tonnes; the output of special steel products reached 1.69 million tonnes, down 10.6% over the month prior and 8.1% year on year.
In April, Japan's steel output by converters fell 7.3% on the month and 5.6% year on year to 5.46 million tonnes; steel output by electric furnaces hit 2.01 million tonnes, falling 2.5% from March and 1.3% from the year prior.
Japan's hot-rolled steel coils production dropped 10.5% month on month and 7.2% year on year to 2.97 million tonnes; H-beam production was 299,000 tonnes, decreasing 7% month on month but up 4.9% year on year.
In April, Japan's pig iron output retreated 6.8% over a month ago and 6.2% on the year to 5.33 million tonnes, data showed.
In January-April, Japan produced a total of 30.48 million tonnes of crude steel, down 3.3% on the year; and 22.08 million tonnes of pig iron, down 5.2%.
