China's thermal coal (including bituminous and sub-bituminous coal, but excluding lignite) imports fell 29.18% year on year to 6.82 million tonnes in April, showed data from the General Administration of Customs on May 23.
The April import was 57.67% higher than March level, with imports value at $1.15 billion, jumping 48.78% year on year and 98.58% month on month. This translated to average import price at $167.9/t, surging 110.08% on the year and up 25.94% on the month.
China's imports of thermal coal totaled 24.64 million tonnes during the first four months of 2022, diving 34.8% or 13.15 million tonnes year on year, with the value at $3.76 billion, up 38.18% from a year ago.
Imports of lignite hiked 53.04% year on year and 56.1% month on month to 11.87 million tonnes in April, data showed. The import value was $1.3 billion in the month, skyrocketing 217.26% year on year and 94.48% month on month.
China's lignite import totaled 31.68 million tonnes in January-April, falling 9.3% or 3.25 million tonnes year on year. Import value totaled $3.07 billion during the same period, rising 78.9% year on year.
