China's financial hub Shanghai plans to reopen businesses from May 16 in an orderly manner after weeks of COVID-19 lockdown, Xinhua news agency quoted the city's vice mayor as saying.
Sectors such as shopping malls, markets and hair salons are on the list of restoration, the media outlet reported.
Shanghai reported 69 locally confirmed COVID-19 cases and 869 asymptomatic cases on May 15, compared with 166 and 1,203, respectively, a day earlier.
The recovering commercial activity will further invigorate demand of power and coal. Coal consumption at Shanghai Electric Power has increased these days, from 14,000 a day on May 1 to 18,000 a day on May 12, marking a 28.6% rise.
