Yancoal Australia Limited said its attributable saleable coal production in the 4th quarter of 2021 came in at 9.3 million tonens, up 2% from 9.1 million tonnes a year ago, but down 6% quarter on quarter, according to the company's quarterly production report.
The company's raw coal production during the given period was 12.6 million tonnes, up 6% from 11.9 million tonnes a year ago, but down 3% from last quarter.
"Attributable ROM and saleable coal output declined 3% and 6% respectively, as continued wet weather and shifts lost to the COVID-19 response affected several operations. Despite the operational challenges late in the quarter, the attributable annual saleable production of 36.7 million tonnes was only 2% below our 2021 production target of around 37.5 million tonnes," the report said.
In 2021, the company's attributable raw coal production totaled 47.5 million tonnes, down 1% from 48 million tonens in 2020; while attributable saleable coal production came in at 36.7 million tonnes, down 4%.
The company sold 9.9 million tonnes of attributable coal in the 4th quarter, up 6% year on year, but down 5% quarter on quarter, with thermal coal sales at 8.3 million tonens, a year-on-year rise of 1%, and met coal sales at 1.6 million tonens, rising 39% from a year ago and unchanged quarter on quarter.
Yancoal Australia sold 37.5 million tonnes of attributable coal in 2021, down 1% on the year, with thermal coal sales at 31.7 million tonnes, down 6% year on year, and met coal sales at 5.8 million tonnes, jumping 40%.
The average coal selling price was A$141/t in 2021, a year-on-year surge of 72%.
