Vietnam imported 2.88 million tonnes of coal in December, down 28.5% compared with the preceding year, preliminary customs data showed
The total import amount reached $540 million in December, surging 89.7% from $285 million, data showed.
Intakes from Australia stood at 1.46 million tonnes, falling 21.5% from the preceding year; shipments from Indonesia were 973,000 tonnes, down 25.4% on the year; imports from Russia were 360,100 tonnes, 16.4% lower compared with a year ago, data showed.
In 2021, Vietnam imported a total of 36.29 million tonnes of coal, down 33.8% year on year, with import amount up 18% from the year-ago level to $4.46 billion.
Imports from Australia, Indonesia and Russia were 15.57 million, 14.70 million and 3.59 million tonnes, down 23.4%, 12.8% and 52.9% respectively compared with the preceding year.
Coal exports from the country were 1.81 million tonnes in 2021, surging more than 100% year on year.
