Global crude steel production down 10.6% on yr in Oct, WSA 2021-11-24 10:49:35

Global crude steel production fell 10.6% from a year ago to 146 million tonnes in October 2021, showed data from the World Steel Association (WSA) on November 23.

In October, the top ten crude steel producers were China, India, Japan, the U.S., Russia, South Korea, Germany, Turkey, Brazil and Iran.

China churned out 71.6 million tonnes of crude steel in the month, down 23.3% year on year, and India's output increased 2.4% year on year to 9.8 million tonnes.

Japan saw a year-on-year rise of 14.3% in its crude steel output to 8.2 million tonnes in October. The U.S.'s output increase 20.5% on the year to 7.5 million tonnes.

In the month, crude steel output in Russia is estimated to tick up 0.5% from a year ago to 6.1 million tonnes. Crude steel output of South Korea fell 1% to 5.8 million tonnes, while that of Germany increased 7% to 3.7 million tonnes, data showed.

Production from Turkey grew 8% year on year to 3.5 million tonnes, while that of Brazil is estimated to rise 10.4% to 3.2 million tonnes. Crude steel production of Iran is estimated to drop 15.3% on the year to 2.2 million tonnes.

In January-October, 64 countries recorded by WSA reported a combined crude steel production of 1.61 billion tonnes, up 5.9% year on year.

China, India, Japan, the U.S. and Russia respectively produced 877 million, 96.9 million, 80.4 million, 71.7 million and 62.5 million tonnes of crude steel during the first ten months of 2021, down 0.7%, but up 20.6%, 17.5%, 19.6% and 5.7%, respectively.

South Korea, Germany, Turkey and Brazil respectively produced 58.7 million, 33.6 million, 33.3 million and 30.3 million tonnes of crude steel during January-October, up 5.9%, 15.1%, 14.2%, 19.1%. Iran's crude steel production fell 5.7% to 22.4 million tonnes during the period.
