India produced 53.9 million tonnes of coal in August, and lignite production was 3.7 million tonnes, the mine ministry said on October 18.
The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector for August stood at 103.8, which was 23.6% higher as compared to the year-ago month.
The output of natural gas stood at 2.85 billion cubic meters, iron ore at 19.7 million tonnes, petroleum-crude at 2.5 million tonnes and bauxite at 1.74 million tonnes.
The production of chromite came in at 175,000 tonnes, gold 8.9 kilograms, manganese ore 180,000 tonnes, limestone 31.1 million tonnes and phosphorite 123,000 tonnes in the month.
The minerals whose production showed positive year-on-year growth during August 2021 were chromite, lignite, magnesite and bauxite.
Other minerals that showed negative growth were diamond, gold and petroleum.
