Alberta province of Canada produced 1.48 million tonnes of coal in July, rising 14% from the same month in the preceding year, yet down 2.48% from a month earlier, according to data from Alberta Energy Regulator.
Bituminous coal production was 1.05 million tonnes in July, down 5.37% on the month. Sub-bituminous coal production increased 5.45% month on month to 428,000 tonnes.
In January-July, Alberta's coal production totaled 7.04 million tonnes, down 38.8% from a year ago, with 3.92 million tonnes of bituminous coal and 3.13 million tonnes of sub-bituminous coal.
In 2020, the province produced 18.78 million tonnes of coal, down 4.05% from 19.57 million tonnes in 2019. Bituminous coal output stood at 9.42 million tonnes, up 26.21%, and sub-bituminous coal at 7.8 million tonnes, down 38.4%.
