Coal imports in Vietnam came in at 3.8 million tonnes in August, falling 18% from the year-ago level, showed preliminary data from the Vietnam customs authority.
The value of imports amounted to $495.4 million, jumping 62.8% year on year, sending the total value in first eight months of the year to $2.76 billion, down 0.4% on the year.
In August, Vietnam imported the most coal from Indonesia, at 1.86 million tonnes, surging 130% from a year ago; that from Australia declined 25.5% year on year 1.49 million tonnes.
Intakes from Russia tumbled almost 80% on the year to 187,000 tonnes in August.
Poland's coal imports totaled 27.3 million tonnes during January-August, down 30.9% from 35.89 million tonnes a year ago.
