Commercial coal output of China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd., a listed arm of China Energy Investment Corp, rose 1.7% from a month ago to 24.3 million tonnes in August, the company said in a report.
The production was still 1.67% higher compared with the same month in 2020.
Commercial coal sales increased 2.1% from a year ago but retreated 6.05% month on month to 38.8 million tonnes in August, the report said.
During the first eight months, Shenhua Energy churned out 200.6 million tonnes of commercial coal, rising 3.8% year on year, and coal sales of the company climbed 13.3% from a year ago to 320.9 million tonnes. The growths slowed down by 0.3 and 1.7 percentage points respectively compared with January-July.
In August, Shenhua had 17.80 million tonnes coal handled at Huanghua port (-10.1% YoY, 1.14% MoM), and 3.9 million tonnes shipped from Shenhua Tianjin coal dock (0% YoY, -7.14% MoM).
The company ascribed the decline mainly to high handling volume in August 2020, when the company stressed improvement in coal shipment to make up deficit made in the first half of 2020 caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Coal handling at Huanghua port and Tianjin port stood at 144.8 million tonnes (8.8% YoY) and 30.9 million tonnes (5.1% YoY), respectively, during the first eight months.
The firm's power generation rose 11.5% year on year to 15.99 TWh in August, bringing the total generation to 108.85 TWh during January-August, up 20.6%.
Power sales rose 11.3% from the year-ago level to 14.97 TWh last month, and surged 20.7% to 101.98 TWh over the first eight months, the company said.
