Major Mongolia-China border checkpoints will operate normally during Mongolian festivals in the remainder of the year, aiming to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on export businesses, especially for coal, a local Mongolian media reported, citing an agreement between the two countries.
Gashuunsukhait/Ganqimaodu, Shiveekhuren/Ceke, Hangi/Mandula, Zamynuud/Erenhot and other major ports will stay operative during the festivals of National Pride Day or the anniversary of the birth of legendary conqueror Genghis Khan on November 5, Republic Day on November 26 and Independence Day on December 29.
Mongolia exported 10.43 million tonnes of coal to China during the first eight months, down 28.35% from a year ago. Exports to China in August gained 53.28% from the preceding month but remained 73.73% lower compared with the same month in 2020, Mongolian customs data showed.
