South Korea imported 30,400 tonnes of coke in August 2021, rising 15.15% or 4,000 tonnes year on year and 6.29% or 1,800 tonnes month on month, customs data showed.
China remained the major coke supplier to South Korea. The country bought 29,100 tonnes of coke from China in August, rising 22.78% year on year and 6.2% month on month. The volume accounted for 95.7% of the total imports, narrowing 0.1 percentage point from a month ago.
South Korea spent $10.9 million in August for coke imports, surging 82.96% year on year and rising 3.67% month on month. The import price therefore averaged $358.52/t, up $132.88/t year on year but down $9.07/t month on month.
In January-July, South Korea's coke imports totaled 220,500 tonnes, rising 6.88% from a year ago. Import value was $78.3 million, 49.95% higher than the year-ago level.
