Boosted by the recovery of railway capacity and strong demand, South Africa coal exports rebounded sharply in February from multi-year low in January.
South Africa's thermal coal (bituminous coal) exports amounted to 5.56 million tonnes in February, up 1.45% from 5.48 million tonnes the same period last year, and up 50.76% from the 3.70 million tonnes in January, data from South African customs showed.

In February, South Africa exported the most thermal coal to India at 1.99 million tonnes, dropping 44.12% year on year but surging 80.95% month on month; thermal coal exports to Pakistan were 1,67 million tonnes, jumping 71% year on year and 88.69% month on month respectively.
South Africa's thermal coal exports to China saw a 8.89% month-on-month increase at 837,900 tonnes in February, compared to zero the same period last year.
In February, South Africa exported 150,900 tonnes of anthracite coal, surging 4.5 times year-on-year, leaping 70.24% month on month;
Other coals exports amounted to 10,700 tonnes, increasing 8.3% year on year and slumping 82.98% month on month.
