China's eastern Shandong province phased out coal production capacity up to 26.21 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) in 2020, according to the provincial government.
The province closed eight coal mines with 8.06 Mtpa of capacity in 2020, and reduced 6.31 Mtpa in 29 mines. The rest of 11.84 Mtpa was realized via market trading, involving 6 coal mines.
Shandong produced 109 million tonnes of raw coal in 2020, falling 8.6% on the year. The province's raw coal production is expected to remain around 110 million tonnes in 2021.
