Eastern China's Shandong province will continue to eliminate coke-making capacity this year, according to a governmental press conference on February 22.
The province will target to close 4 coke ovens with chamber height less than 5.5 meters this year, involving capacity combined at 1.8 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
It was reported that the net reduction of coke capacity in the province reached around 17 Mtpa last year, leading to a sharp decline in coke production compared with a year ago.
Shandong churned out 31.6 million tonnes of coke in 2020, slumping 32% year on year, making it the largest reduction of coke production among other provinces.
The province ranked fifth in coke production last year, but third in 2019 and 2018, showed data from sxcoal.com.
