South Korea imported 27,000 tonnes of coke in January 2021, surging 57.89% from December 2020 but tumbling 24.37% year on year, hitting a new high since May 2020, the country's customs data showed.

China is the major coke supplier to South Korea with 25,800 tonnes in the month, jumping 58.28% month and month but falling 19.12% year on year. The Chinese supply accounted for 95.6% of the total imports.
The nation spent a total of $9.09 million in January for coke imports, dipping 1.87% year on year but rising 79.27% month on month. The import price therefore averaged $336.56/t, up 29.75% year on year and 13.54% month on month.
In 2020, South Korea's coke imports totaled 299,700 tonnes, decreasing 10.32% from 334,200 tonnes a year ago. It cost South Korea $75.83 million to import coke through the same period, 26.66% lower than the year-ago level of $103.4 million.
