During the Chinese Lunar New Year in mid-Feb, 197 coal mines in Inner Mongolia are planning to keep normal production, with total capacity of 860 million tonnes per year (Mtpa), introduced Zhang Zhanjun, deputy director of the Inner Mongolia Energy Administration.
Besides, Inner Mongolia has more than 25 million tonnes of coal stocks so far, he said, adding it will continue playing an active role in ensuring the coal supply.
Inner Mongolia churned out 288 million tonnes of coal in the fourth quarter of 2020, setting a record high in the past five years and rising 19% year on year. The daily extraction kept around 3.2 million tonnes in the period, nearly 600,000 tonnes higher than the daily output in the first three quarters.
Despite the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, Inner Mongolia's coal production still reached 1.006 billion tonnes in 2020, accounting for more than a quarter of China's total.
After the centralized rectification over the past year, the high-quality development pattern has basically taken shape in Inner Mongolia's coal industry, with the capacity of each single mine exceeding 1.2 Mtpa.
From 2016 to 2020, Inner Mongolia had supplied nearly 690 million tonnes of coal to Northeast China, of which 140 million tonnes were supplied in 2020, satisfying the heating demand of the people in the region.
