Australia's largest iron ore handling port Hedland exported 468 million tonnes of the mineral material to China last year, up 7.15% from a year earlier, data from Pilbara Port Authority showed.
China is the destination for 86.5% of the port's exports last year, which totaled 541 million tonnes, up 4.53% year on year.
In December, Hedland's iron ore exports to China totaled 39.96 million tonnes, up 16.02% month on month, hitting a new high since September, down 3.48% year on year though.
The port exported 46.5 million tonnes of iron ore in December, a new high since July, with 85.9% flowing into China.
Hedland is one of the largest iron ore handling ports in the world. BHP, FMG and Roy Hill Holdings ship iron ore outside through this port.
