Coal-rich Shanxi province phased out 40.99 million tonnes per annual of coal production capacity in 2020, bringing the total reduction to 156.85 Mtpa during the 13th Five Year Plan period, local energy bureau said on January 10.
During 2016-2020, Shanxi had reduced its total coal capacity from 146 Mtpa to 135 Mtpa, and lowered down the number of coal mines from 1,078 to less than 900.
The average capacity of coal mines climbed from 135 Mtpa to 150 Mtpa, with advanced coal capacity reaching 68% compared with 30% before 2016.
All coal mines with capacity less than 0.6 Mtpa in the province have been withdrawn during the five years.
