Wuhai, a major coke production city in Inner Mongolia, will speed up efforts in closing coke ovens with chamber height of 4.3 meters, according to an announcement issued by local authorities.
The city has seven such coke ovens, with capacity totaling 6.69 million tonnes per annum, according to the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Wuhai.
These coke ovens will be phased out and replaced by large coke ovens with capacity at or below the closed ones, the announcement said.
For 4.3-meter coke ovens that have been constructed but not completed formalities before operation, departments at all levels need to push enterprises to close the capacity.
The local-level relevant departments in charge of the reduction of the seven coke ovens are required to timely report their work to city-level team from November 13, according to the announcement.
Wuhai's coke production accounted for 36.9% of Inner Mongolia's total in 2018, showed data from the statistical bureau of the region.
