Coal consumption of power generators in Taiwan fell 6.62% month on month but rose 12.77% year on year to 3.48 million tonnes in September, showed data from the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
State-owned Taiwan Power Company (Taipower), the largest power utility in the island, burned 2.74 million tonnes of coal, up 15.9% year on year but down 7.03% month on month.
Independent power producers (IPPs) consumed 743,400 tonnes of coal in September, up 2.57% from the year prior but sliding 5.08% month on month.
The accumulative coal burns stood at 27.45 million tonnes during the first nine months this year, dropping 1.45% from a year earlier, with 21.11 million tonnes (-4.78% YoY) burned by Taipower and 6.34 million tonnes (11.56% YoY) by IPPs.
