Kazakhstan, a coal-rich Central Asian nation, produced 78 million tonnes of coal in January-September period, down 1% year on year, showed the latest official data.
Of this, 42 million tonnes were for power generation, 4.2 million tonnes for industrial firms and 6.3 million tonnes for power sector and residential utilization.
Coal consumption in power sector and residential usage in Kazakhstan is forecast to reach 10 million tonnes, 2.8 million tonnes for power and 7.2 million tonnes for residential usage, according to the country's 2020-2021 coal demand plan.
As of October 19, power generators finished 84% of the coal consumption plan, against 73% in the year-ago level. The coal consumption in residential sector was 76% while it was 69% a year ago.
