Chongqing's thermal coal consumption totaled 10.68 million tonnes in the first nine months this year, dropping 17.9% year on year, showed data from Chongqing Economic and Information Commission.
As of the end of September, the city's major power plants stored 3.31 million tonnes of coal, slightly higher than 3.16 million tonnes in the same period last year.
Main thermal power plants purchased 10.9 million tonnes of coal during January-September, an 18% drop on a yearly basis.
Of that, 2.31 million tonnes were supplied by Chongqing Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd., tumbling 30.5% year on year, and 146,000 tonnes came from other suppliers in the city, down 62.6% on the year.
Coal procurement from other provinces declined 12% year on year to 8.44 million tonnes, comprising 4.22 million tonnes from Shaanxi, 1.35 million tonnes from seaborne and Yangtze river waterborne shipments, 1.09 million tonnes from Guizhou, 677,000 tonnes from Sichuan, 721,000 tonnes from Shanxi, 292,000 tonnes from Gansu and 94,000 tonnes from other sources.
These thermal power plants generated 1.49 TWh of electricity in September, plunging 50.9% from the year-prior level. The cumulative power output over January-September hit 24.78 TWh, falling 13.7% from the same period of 2019.
