Commercial coal output of China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd., a listed arm of China Energy Investment Corp., grew 2.1% from a year ago and 0.84% month on month to 23.9 million tonnes in August, the company said in a report late September 15.
The August figure brought total production to 193.2 million tonnes over January-August, with a year-on-year growth of 0.1%, which reversed from a decline of 0.2% during the first seven months, according to the report.
Coal sales, however, declined 0.8% from a year ago and fell 5% from the July-level to 38 million tonnes last month.
The accumulative coal sales were down 3.9% year on year to 283.3 million tonnes over the first eight months.
In August, Shenhua had 19.8 million tonnes coal handled at Huanghua port (22.2% YoY, 1.02% MoM), and 3.9 million tonnes shipped from Shenhua Tianjin coal dock (-2.5% YoY,-2.5% MoM).
During the first eight months, coal handling at Huanghua port and Tianjin port stood at 133.1 million tonnes (-0.4% YoY) and 29.4 million tonnes (-1.7% YoY), respectively.
The firm's power generation increased 9.4% year on year to 14.3 TWh of electricity in August, sending total power generation to 90.28 TWh in the first eight months.
Power sales were also up 10.1% from the year-ago level to 13.45 TWh last month, and totaled 84.49 TWh over January-August.
