S Korea Aug anthracite import hits 7-mth high

South Korea's anthracite imports increased 14.77% from July to 605,300 tonnes in August, showed data from the country's customs authority, the highest since January this year.

 

The August anthracite imports were still 17.21% lower than 731,100 tonnes in August 2019, data showed.

Australia was South Korea's largest supplier of anthracite, contributing 327,300 tonnes in August, decreasing 25.88% year on year but almost doubled the month-ago level.

 

The country imported 269,400 tonnes of anthracite from Russia in August, up 5.61% year on year but down 24.09% month on month.

 

The import value slumped 42.9% to $56.69 million in August compared with the year ago, but rising 27.65% month on month. That translates to an average import price of $93.65/t, falling 31.05% year on year but rising 11.23% month on month.

 

South Korea's anthracite imports totaled 4.06 million tonnes in the first eight months, decreasing 19.64% compared with the same period in 2019. The cumulative import value slumped 41.26% to $413 million from $703 million a year earlier.
