Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd refreshed a new high of power load reaching 108.5 GW as of 13:25 on August 3, higher than a peak level of 107.2 GW last year, Xinhua Daily reported.
It hit the highest level in power grid's history, and the power grid witnessed its power load break 100 GW for four consecutive years.
Power consumption in Jiangsu province had suffered double whammy of the COVID-19 pandemic and rainy season, but then it kept recovering quickly thanks to stable industrial development and households' higher power demand amid persistent scorching weather.
It experienced a "V"-shape period in power usage in the first half of this year, with rebound momentum also robust. In June, Jiangsu province consumed a total 54.02 TWh of electricity, while monthly power usage posted a growth of 7.33% year on year.
"It is forecast that the province's highest power load will rise 3.1% year on year to 110.5 GW in 2020; if high temperatures of above 35 degree centigrade, the power grid's peak load will grow 8.7% to 116.5 GW," said Lu Xiao, director with Dispatch and Control Center of Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd.
