Hebei logged profit of 6.45 billion yuan ($923 million) in steel industry in June, more than the amount of 5.71 billion yuan during the first quarter, data showed from the local statistical bureau.
The province's steel industry reaped a total 120.9 billion yuan in operating income during the same month, data showed.
Over the first half of 2020, Hebei bagged 583.3 billion yuan in operating income from steel industry, still down 6.1% from a year ago, and profit of the sector also fell 33.7% year on year to 218.3 billion, data showed, which accounted for 25.96% of China's total during the same period.
China's income from steel industry declined 3.8% year on year to 3.19 trillion yuan during the first six months, with profit down 40.3% to 84.1 billion yuan.
Data showed, of the 353 surveyed steel firms, 93 were lossmaking by the end of June, 5.7% higher compared with a year ago. The total loss amount was down 6.9% year on year to 1.1 billion yuan.
By the end of March, 138 of surveyed 348 steel firms were not making profit, 16.9% higher than a year ago, with the loss down 47.3% to 1.5 billion yuan.
During the first six months, Hebei's ferrous metal ore mining and washing industry realized 37.52 billion yuan of operating income, up 19.5% from a year ago. Its profits totaled 2.36 billion yuan, down 8.5%, data showed.
