India plans to realize one billion tonnes of coal production in 2023-24 fiscal year, while aiming to lower coal imports to zero, said Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, said on July 24.
According to the Minister, the coal Private Sector Units and captive miners have drafted plans to improve the production, and the Indian government is planning to invest Rs 125,000 crore in infrastructure construction during 2020-24 and 534 projects have been confirmed.
The progress of coal industry will not only satisfy the increasing domestic demand, but also conducive to stabilizing the environment, said Shah. "Prime Minster has set up district mineral fund with Rs 39,000 crore for the development of mines and till now, 35,000 minor projects have been done."
