The electricity consumption of Guizhou province in southwestern China increased 5.7% year on year to 9.32 TWh in June, posting the fastest year-on-year growth since this year, showed data from China Southern Power Grid Guizhou Electric Power Co., Ltd.

As industry and business orders have gradually returned to normal, the cumulative power consumption achieved a positive growth on the year in the first half of 2020 in Guizhou province.

"Corporations' electricity consumption data is a barometer of economic activities," said Zheng Fangpeng, head of the marketing department of Guizhou Electric Power Co., Ltd.

Driven by the good demand and the investment in industrial equipment from inside and outside the province, manufacturing of the advanced equipment industry in Guizhou is going on smoothly, and the electricity consumption has increased steadily entering June, he introduced.

"The industrial chains are linked with each other, so the recovery of demand in the upstream will boost the power consumption of downstream industrial enterprises," Zhang said.

Thanks to stable production of electrolytic aluminum, steel, coal, metallurgy, chemical and other industries, the electricity consumption in Southwestern Guizhou prefecture, Bijie city, Liupanshui city and Southeastern Guizhou prefecture has maintained a positive growth, he pointed out.
