Anhui province in eastern China saw power consumption increase 0.1% from the previous year to 109 TWh in the first half of the year, the first time this year for the accumulative growth in the positive territory.
During May and June, power use in the province rose 10.3% and 8.3% compared with a year ago, signaling that the local economy is coming back to normal from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over January-June, Anhui logged a 0.7% year-on-year decrease in industrial power consumption, while electricity consumed in manufacturing industry picked up 1.8% year on year.
Despite a yearly drop of 2.4% for the January-June period, power consumption by tertiary industries – mainly the service sector – surged 13.5% from the year before in June, expanding 9.1 percentage points from the growth in May, and 1.1 percentage points from that in June 2019.
A total 12 cities in Anhui registered positive growth in power use in the first six months this year, up by 1.3-11.2% year on year.
