The State Grid Energy Research Institute Co. Ltd, the branch of the State Grid Corporation of China, said in a report that the nationwide newly-added installed capacity of new energy exceeded that of thermal power for the third year in 2019.
The new energy capacity increment was 56.1 GW last year, which accounted for 58% of China's total increment, according to the report.
As of the end-2019, China's installed capacity of new energy reached 410 GW, marking a year-on-year growth of 16%, accounting for 20.6% of China's overall installed capacity.
Power generation from new energy in 2019 stood at 630.2 TWh, a 16% increase year on year. Its proportion in the country's total production rose to 8.6%, 0.8 percent point higher than the year prior.
In 2019, 21 provinces saw new energy become the largest and the second largest power source. The leading edge of new energy as the most significant power supply source in Qinghai and Gansu, the landlocked provinces in northwest China, has been maintained.
Moreover, the utilization rate of new energy rises stably. And the trading power volume on the new energy market also climbs steadily.
In 2019, China's new energy power curtailment was 21.5 TWh, dropping 35.2% year on year, while utilization rate climbed 2.5 percentage points to 96.7%.
Market trading volume of new energy power increased 26.2% on the year to 145.1 TWh last year.
