China's Qinghai-Henan ±800 kV ultra-high voltage DC transmission project started full-line live-wire testing on June 29, according to the State Grid Co., Ltd.
This is a key national UHV DC project to support the large-scale transmission of new energy in Qinghai, and is also by far the world's first UHV DC project focused on transmitting electricity generaged from new energy sources.
The project starts in the east of hydropower-rich Qinghai province and ends in Henan province in central China. It has a total length of 1,587 kilometers and a transmission capacity of 8 GW.
The project is expected to be finished and put into operation in December this year, and deliver 40 TWh of electricity to central China each year after completion.
