Baoshen railway officially starts 300Mt capacity expansion project, as its Shanggelao station completed the turnout upgrade, according to China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy) on June 16.
The investment of 1.239 billion yuan ($175.2 million) was approved for the project. The construction will take 730 calendar days, involving the renovation of 12 stations in total on the entire line.
It is a key project of CHN Energy to develop the group's railway network.
Baoshen railway runs from Shenmu county, Shaanxi province to Baotou city, Inner Mongolia. It started operation in March 1989, and was the first railway of Shenhua Group, with a total length of 192 kilometers and 19 stations in total.
The railway is responsible for coal collection and outward transportation in Shenhua's Shendong mining area. It also shoulders the task of coal transportation of other suppliers in Ordos and shipment of some non-coal materials.
Data showed that Baoshen Railway completed 14.15 million tonnes of cargo transportation in May, outperforming the monthly plan by 644,000 tonnes.
