China produced 298.02 million tonnes of raw coal in June, rising 1.7% from the preceding year and 0.34% from a month ago, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on July 16.
Total raw coal output stood at 1.7 billion tonnes in the first six months of 2018, with a year-on-year increase 0.1 percentage point lower than the growth over January-May, showed the NBS data.
To ensure stable supply in summer months, China's National Development and Reform Commission rolled out an array of measures including speeding up release of new capacity, boosting rail capacity and loose import policy.
Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Xinjiang and Guizhou were the top five producers in June, with total output at 231.23 million tonnes, accounting for 78% of China's total.
There were six provinces with raw coal output above 10 million tonnes in June. They are Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Guizhou, Xinjiang and Shandong. Their output totaled 242 million tonnes in the month, or 81.1% of China's total.
The large coal producers with annual turnover above 20 million yuan in northern China's Shanxi province produced 77.86 million tonnes of coal in June, rising 3.1% from a year ago and up 2.6% from a month earlier.
Coal output totaled 424.03 million tonnes in the production base over the first six months, edging up 1.2% from the preceding year, data showed.
While closing backward capacity, Shanxi shall continue to expand share of high-quality coal capacity synchronously during the 13th Five-Year Plan period of 2016-20.
By end-June, Shanxi had 605 operating coal mines, 8 less than end-2017, yet their total capacity picked up 36.25 Mtpa or 4% from end-2017 to 946.05 Mtpa, said Shanxi Coal Industry Administration.
Inner Mongolia produced 71.5 million tonnes of raw coal in June, losing 0.8% from the preceding year and 8.8% from a month earlier. The month-on-month descend came as many coal mines and washing plants halted production on environmental grounds.
Total output stood at 442.92 million tonnes across the region in the January-June period, climbing 5.6% on the year.
Shaanxi produced 55.92 million tonnes of raw coal in June, gaining 17.8% year on year and up 8.5% from the month prior. Total coal output climbed 15.9% from the preceding year to 287.9 million tonnes in the first half of the year.
Relevant authorities in Shaanxi carried out two times of safety inspections in June and asked problematic mines to implement rectification plans. The central environmental inspection teams also arrived there in the month.
