China imported 6.86 million tonnes of thermal coal (including bituminous and sub-bituminous coal but lignite) in October, down 6.28% from the preceding year and 32.88% month on month, showed the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs on November 23.
The value of the imports totaled $508.92 million, translating to an average import price of $74.19/t, rising $15.93/t from a year ago but rising $1.14/t from the month prior.
Total thermal coal imports rose 16.17% from a year ago to 88.22 million tonnes over January-October, with the value down 59.85% year on year to $1.52 billion.
China imported 8.62 million tonnes of lignite in October, increasing 24.03% year on year but decreasing 11.32% from the month before, which was valued $425.62 million, rising 56.65% from the preceding year.
Total lignite imports grew 22.3% year on year to 68.06 million tonnes in the first ten months this year, with the value skyrocketing 72.65% from the year prior to $3.3 billion.
